Online Voice Recorder
Record your voice in the browser and keep the file: a small one to send or upload, or a WAV copy to edit. Press Start recording, allow the microphone and talk. You can pause, play it back and download it. The audio stays on your device until you upload it somewhere yourself.

Which file should I send?
Send the compressed file. It's the first download button. The format depends on your browser: WebM (Opus codec) in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and M4A (AAC) in Safari versions that don't record WebM. The button names the one you got.
The recorder asks the browser for 128 kbps, which is 0.96 MB a minute. We recorded a one-minute test in Chrome and got 970 KB. A two-minute voice message is about 2 MB, small enough for email and most chat apps. Play it back before you send it, so you find a muted mic or the wrong input before the other person does.
One recording, the right file for each job
Which file should I edit?
Use the WAV copy. It's uncompressed 16-bit audio, so audio editors can open it directly. It's six times the size of the compressed file: 5.76 MB a minute at 48 kHz mono.
You get a WAV copy only for recordings up to 30 minutes. For a longer one, record in parts of 30 minutes or less, or open the compressed file in your editor if it can read it.
How do I record something to turn into text?
The transcript can only be as good as the recording, so set up before you press Start recording. Keep the mic 6 to 12 inches from your mouth. Watch the meter while you talk and keep it in the green. Amber and red mean you're getting loud. At 0 dBFS, the loudest level the recording can hold, the sound clips and distorts. Pick a quiet room, and if you're unsure about the mic, run the free mic test first. It tells you in five seconds whether your level is good.
Then upload the compressed file to WhisperAI's audio to text. It takes WebM, M4A and WAV. A 45-minute lecture recorded here is about 43.2 MB, and every plan accepts files up to 5 GB. The free plan's 5 minutes a month will cover a voice memo. The lecture needs Premium (120 minutes a month) or Business Pro (unlimited minutes).
Recording a meeting or a call instead? WhisperAI's meeting assistant records it in Chrome or Edge with no bot joining the call, and writes the transcript for you.
What happens to my audio?
It stays in this browser tab's memory. Reload or close the tab before you download it, and the recording is gone. A recording stops on its own at 2 hours.
When the recorder opens your mic, we ask your browser for echo cancellation, noise suppression and auto gain (automatic volume leveling). The browser decides whether to apply them, and the line under the recorder shows which ones it used.
If recording won't start, the recorder shows the reason the browser gave: access blocked, no mic found, or the mic busy in another app. The mic test's fixes walk through each one for Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox, Windows and macOS.
