Set four fields once and every recording comes back clinical-ready. Here's a real set-up and what it produces.
You set
You get
ClinicianYour LDL is still above target, so let's start atorvastatin 20 mg once daily, in the evening.
PatientDo I keep taking the metformin 500 mg twice a day?
ClinicianYes, no change there. Your HbA1c was 6.8 percent. Dr. Okafor will go over the lipid panel with you in twelve weeks.
Clinical terms, medications and doses are kept exactly as spoken.
Drugs, conditions and names — up to 100 — so they're spelled right.
Optional formatting rules, like writing doses as numerals with units.
Clinician and Patient, so the transcript reads by role.
The Medical preset: Preserve clinical terminology exactly as spoken, including medications, dosages, symptoms, procedures, and diagnostic terms. Use standard spelling for drug names and medical terminology. Preserve the original meaning without adding medical interpretation.
Turn on HIPAA mode once and these safeguards stay on for the account.
Accepted in Account & Billing when you turn on HIPAA mode. WhisperAI confirms the account before you use it for PHI.
Inactive sessions sign out automatically, with a warning a minute before.
See who viewed, played or exported a transcript, and when.
Emailing transcripts from WhisperAI is off; download and send them yourself.
Notifications say a transcript is ready, never what the recording is.
TLS 1.3 in transit, AES-256 at rest, and PHI is never used to train AI models.
Every plan below includes HIPAA mode and the Business Associate Agreement.

The BAA, what it covers, safeguards, medical terminology and cost.
HIPAA-compliant transcription is turning recordings that contain protected health information (PHI) — patient visits, therapy sessions, dictation, research interviews — into text under the safeguards the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules require. In practice that means the transcription provider signs a Business Associate Agreement (BAA), encrypts the data, limits and logs access, and only processes PHI in the services the BAA covers.
WhisperAI supports HIPAA-compliant transcription workflows on Business Pro, Enterprise, and Developer API plans. You turn on HIPAA mode in Account & Billing and accept our Business Associate Agreement; WhisperAI then confirms the account before it is used for protected health information. Don't use other plans for PHI.
Yes. The WhisperAI Business Associate Agreement is accepted when you turn on HIPAA mode on a Business Pro, Enterprise or Developer API plan. Read the full BAA before you sign: https://whisperai.com/WhisperAI-BAA-v1-2026-10-26.pdf.
Uploading and storing audio and video in the web app and through the Developer API; the Chrome extension, including recording, live transcription and dictation; transcription with speaker labels; viewing, editing and searching transcripts; AI summaries, AI chat and translation; export and download; sharing with named members of your workspace; and deletion.
The iPhone and other mobile apps, the Claude and ChatGPT connectors, Google Drive sync and other cloud-storage integrations, YouTube import, public share links, email notifications, support chat and emails, free and trial plans, the landing-page demo, and features labeled beta. Don't put protected health information into any of these.
Yes, in the web app or the Chrome extension on a HIPAA account. Live recording, real-time transcription and dictation are covered. The iPhone app is not covered, so don't use it for patient recordings. Follow your own consent and recording policies.
Choose the Medical style preset, which keeps clinical terminology, medications, dosages, symptoms, procedures and diagnostic terms as spoken without adding interpretation. You can also add up to 100 key terms per recording — drug names, conditions, clinician and practice names — and label speakers by role, such as Clinician and Patient.
No. WhisperAI transcribes and summarizes recordings, and you can ask questions about a transcript, but it does not write clinical notes into an electronic health record and has no EHR integration. Review every transcript and export it as DOCX, PDF or TXT to use in your own documentation workflow.
Accounts sign out after 15 minutes of inactivity, transcripts can't be emailed from WhisperAI, notifications contain no recording details, and an access log shows who viewed, played or exported transcripts. Data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.3 and at rest with AES-256, and protected health information is not used to train AI models.
Yes, for research interviews and focus groups that include protected health information, on a HIPAA account. Use the Interview / Q&A preset, name participants by role, and export timestamped transcripts for analysis. Check your IRB protocol and institution's data rules first.
HIPAA mode is included on Business Pro ($24.99 a month or $199 a year, unlimited transcription), Enterprise ($75 a month or $750 a year for a 5-seat team workspace) and the Developer API. There is no separate HIPAA fee.
